HYDROPONICS AREA - OTHER PROPS

In addition to the essential assets I have created so far for the Hydroponics area, I will be making a few additional props to further enhance the environment. These include lighting props for the ceiling and walls to use for a proper illumination, pallets for storage and organisation, electrical boxes with cable systems to represent the area's power management, and other small props.

Lighting Props

The inspiration for this model came from various types of industrial lighting that use fluorescent fittings with tubes. 

I modelled the lighting fixture prop in Maya, total polycount is 1578. Also, for this prop I am going to use a tileble material, as it does not need unique texturing due to being used in places that are mostly far away from the camera. Additionally, I will create various emissive materials later in Unreal to use on tube meshes, and the process will be explained in a later post.

For the chain fixtures, I started modelling an individual chain link and then duplicated it many times using different rotation values. This model will also receive a tileable steel material.

Pallet

I modelled the pallet model in Maya, after doing some research on dimensions and structure of a standard wooden pallet. I decided to go with the 1200x1000 (cm) size. Total polycount for the pallet model is 2K.

In Substance Painter, I used a default wood material as a base and tweaked its layer properties until I was happy with the result. I also added a separate layer with a few extra details such as bar code, numbers, or nails.

Electric Box

The electric box prop was modelled in Maya and it is a simple prop that features a few elements such as cable connectors and small LED light bulbs.

This prop is going to be used in both, Hydroponics and Med Bay areas, so I will make variations of the model and materials. Total polycount for this prop is 2K.

Gas Cylinder

The gas cylinder model will be used as a prop for scene dressing. It was modelled in Maya and the total polycount is 3336.

This prop received unique textures as I wanted to add some details and have at least two texture sets with different colours. I used Substance Painter for texturing, starting with a base material and then added additional layer for some scratches, welding marks, graphics and text. Textures sets were exported using the Unreal Engine (Packed) template, with resolution of 2048x2048.

Cardboard Box

This asset was modelled in Maya and it is a very simple prop with a total polycount of 71. I wanted to make several small boxed to scatter around the hydroponics area, in different sizes and versions.

I textured this model in Substance Painter using a base cardboard material. Then, I added multiple layers for texts and labels, and exported several different texture sets for visual variations.
