PRODUCTION LOG 09
EXTERNAL RESOURCES - QUIXEL AND MARKETPLACE
To speed up the process a little bit and enhance the visual quality of my environment, I incorporated various external assets and materials from Quixel Megascans and Unreal's Marketplace. Having access to such assets libraries has been a huge help. Using these external resources allowed me to use my time to focus on my assets planned for the environment.
Quixel offers a wide range of high-quality, photorealistic materials and 3D assets. On the other hand, Unreal Marketplace offers many free props and assets that can be used for set dressing.
I used Quixel mostly for tileable materials that I needed in my environment, such as unique metal sheets, fabrics, or tiles.
Unreal's Marketplace was also used to speed up the set dressing process. I used three packs that I already had in library and matched the aesthetic of my bunker environment. I made use of some small props from the following packs:
Advanced Glass Material Pack by Michal Orzelek
Brutalist Architecture Office by KK Design
Safe House by Emran Arts
While integrating these assets, I often customised them to fit seamlessly into the bunker's design. Some props were re-textured using Substance Painter to match the colour scheme and wear level. Other adjustments were made in Unreal Engine to ensure that the materials and textures of these assets matched the overall aesthetic and lighting of the environment.
The use of external assets allowed me to focus on set dressing more efficiently at this point, without the need for extensive modelling from scratch. Time constraints and the size of my environment were the two main reasons to include them in my workflow.
